What is ABC?

ABC is the largest construction association devoted to the merit shop contractor. The ABC student chapter club works very closely with the ABC Rocky Mountain Chapter. They provide leadership for the front range of Colorado's construction industry through comprehensive apprenticeship, craft training, legislative advocacy and a wide variety of member services.

ABC Competition Team

The ABC club also has its own Project Management competition team which is separate from the ASC competitions. They compete in a national competition every year at the ABC national convention. This national convention last about 5 days and consists of the Project management competition, trade competitions, ABC national meeting, socializing/networking events everyday, and tons of other activities. This year the gathering was in Honolulu, HI and there were about 1,500 industry and about 70 students. Next year it will be held in San Diego, CA and they expect an even bigger turn out than this year.

Competition Project

The competition team is picked during the middle of the fall semester but will not receive their project till right before classes start second semester. The project consists of full plans and specs. The team will then do a full estimate of the project and prepare a bid package for the project all before they get to the competition. When the team arrives at the competition they will turn in the bid package with a final number but will also have a bid day. The bid day is 8 hours long and you will be locked into a room with no outside contact including no internet. While you are in there you will have to put together another bid package but this time with subcontractor numbers. Every 15 minuets the judges will hand everyone a stack of 6-10 bids for the project. You will have quickly decide to accept the bid or throw it out. After 6 hours your final bid price is due. With the remaining 2 hours you will need to finish the rest of you bid package so that you have a complete and qualified bid. From there the judges review each teams package and pick the top 5 to present an owner presentation. The judges are individuals from the construction industry and try to make this as close to the real thing as they can and will make it very intellectually challenging. This competition takes all the things you will learn in the CM program and combines them into one. Being apart of the team is a great way to get construction related experience, meet tons of industry, and give you something to set yourself apart form the rest of the students.

How to get on the Team

To get on the team you must first be a member of any CM club (does not have to be ABC).

Submit a resume to Bryce Dongog with the following information:
-Name, Contact info
-Anticipated Graduation
-Classes you have completed
-Classes you are signed up for over the summer/fall 09
-Any Construction experience
-And anything else you think might be important

As of right now there are positions open on the team. It does not matter if you are a senior or a freshmen or have little to no experience. We are looking to chose a mixture of students so that they all can bring something different to the table and for people that can be on the team 2 years in a row. That way we have some over lap in team members and so that the team has a better idea of what to expect at the competition. The team will not be picked until the fall semester.
